Enchantment of Apoxyomenos
Located in the heart of Mali Lošinj, the Apoxyomenos Museum is dedicated to an extraordinary bronze statue of an ancient Greek athlete. This sculpture, known as Apoxyomenos, was discovered in 1996 in the sea near the island of Lošinj at a depth of 45 meters. The statue, over 2000 years old, depicts a young athlete cleaning his body after a competition.
The Apoxyomenos Museum is not just a place where you can see this incredible artifact, but also experience a journey through time. Visitors pass through a series of rooms, each designed with unique decor, scents, and temperatures to evoke different aspects of Apoxyomenos's life. This multisensory experience culminates in the white room where the statue is displayed. Photography in this room is not allowed, but portholes throughout the museum allow for photos from other rooms.
A special experience is offered by the final room, which is like a kaleidoscope, reflecting the Bay of Augusta and the town of Mali Lošinj. This room creates a magical visual spectacle that completes the entire museum visit.
The discovery of Apoxyomenos was one of the most significant archaeological finds in Croatia. After extensive restoration, the statue has become a symbol of cultural heritage and attracts numerous visitors from around the world.
A visit to the Apoxyomenos Museum is a unique experience that combines history, art, and contemporary design.
